With Conflict Catcher 4, we have worked very hard to bring you the very latest in Startup File management and conflict identification.
This demo will work for seven days. After seven days have passed, Conflict Catcher 4 will no longer load and be available to manage your startup files. Conflict Catcher 4 requires System 7 or later.
Conflict Catcher™ 4 Installation
Conflict Catcher 4 is fully compatible with all versions of System 7.
Before you begin the installation process, it's important that you understand that you will need to be running System 7 or later and that you must have at least 1.3 MB of free space on your hard disk for Conflict Catcher to be installed on your system. If you're not certain, don't be concerned—Conflict Catcher's installation program will check to be certian these conditions are met before it actually copies any files onto your system.
• If You're Upgrading From Conflict Catcher II or 3
Conflict Catcher 4 will automatically read CC II or CC 3 preferences, recognize the enabled and disabled startup files, and convert them – including sets, links, and reordering information.
• Conflict Catcher 4 will overwrite the CC II or CC 3 Control Panel and Extension, leaving your preferences untouched. Therefore, if you wish to go back to using your previous version, you must reinstall from the floppy disk.
• If You're Switching From Another Startup File Manager
Conflict Catcher 4 will automatically disable most startup file managers on restart. These include: Apple's Extension Manager, Now Startup Manager, INIT Picker and Symbionts.
Installing Conflict Catcher:
If At Ease software is installed on your computer, you must turn it off before you install Conflict Cather 4. For instructions, see the manual that came with your At Ease software.
Before you insert the Conflict Catcher 4 installation disk, we recommend you restart your Macintosh with all extensions turned off. This has the added benefit of disabling any virus checking software that might mistakenly suspect that a virus might be trying to "infect" your system. To do this just hold down one of the shift keys as you restat your system. As your system starts up, it will display the message "Welcome to Macintosh" in a box at the center of the screen. If you're holding down the shift key when this message appears, just below it you'll see "Extensions off"—this means that none of your startup files will be loaded and your system should start up sucessfully to the Finder.
1. Once the Finder appears, you should insert your Conflict Catcher 4 installation disk and locate the "CC Installer" icon.
2. Double-click on the icon to run the installation program, and you'll see the installer's introductory screen.
3. Click "Continue" to get started with the installation—Conflict Catcher 4 installer's main window will appear.
When you've read the contents of the install information window and are satisfied with the Install Destination, click "Install" to actually start transferring the Conflict Catcher files.
Once the installation is done you are urged to click on "Restart" so that you can begin to benefit from Conflict Catcher right away!
Conflict Catcher 4 Removal:
To remove all of Conflict Catcher 4's files, double click on "CC Installer™", click "Continue" on the splash screen and then hold down the option key. This will make the "Install" button change into "Remove". Click on "Remove" to completely remove Conflict Catcher 4.
If you installed over another startup file manager you will find the previous startup file manager files in the "Control Panels (Disabled)" and "Extensions (Disabled)" folders. Locate those files in the "Control Panels (Disabled)" and "Extensions (Disabled) folders and move them to the "Control Panels" and "Extensions" folders. Once you restart your computer, you will have your previous startup file manager back.
Conflict Catcher Help:
Conflict Catcher 4 supports Balloon help and has its own help system. We recommend that you use both when exploring the various features. It is also a good idea to walk through the preferences and try things that sound interesting.
Here are some features you don't want to overlook:
At startup time you can direct Conflict Catcher to restart, shutdown, pause, or stop loading startup files. Here are the keys to hold down at startup time (after Conflict Catcher has loaded):
Command-R Restarts the computer
Command-S Shuts down the computer
Command-P Pauses the startup process
Command-period Stops loading startup files and proceeds directly to the Finder
